I'm planning to head up to Ben Lomond for a ski this weekend, does anybody know what the snow conditions are like up there at the moment?

I saw video on the Sunday news of what it was like on the weekend just gone. There is pretty much just a spattering of snow, really not skiable at all. Fair bit up at Cradle though if you're into that sort of terrain. I imagine it will be pretty slushy though after all the rain and warmer weather, actually it was pretty soft on Saturday even.
Couple of weekends ago I went up Mt. Barrow and there was lots of nice crunchy snow, but I believe it didn't last one the rain came down that night.

Heh go to Ben lomond for skiing? Crazy. I'm thinking about going up there for a wander once we get a blue sky. Be nice to have some snow around.

Hey lads
Took the family up to Ben Lomond on Sunday arvo. Here are a few pics (from the iphone). There were no lifts operating and maybe a dozen or so people on the slopes skiing and snow-boarding. I highly doubt there has been any more snow fall since then so don't like your chances.

Although I just read in the Examiner newspaper that they got some snow late yesterday arvo and had some lifts operating...........also that some snow is forecast to fall before this weekend and that they will hopefully have more lifts operating by then.

Thanks for the pictures and the info, the camera on Ski.com has been down for about a week now so it's good to see what the conditions are like.

Meant to be a fine day on Saturday. Would be a great time to explore the plateau with snow around, might see you there if you still plan to head up

Good report in the Examiner today, sounds like most of the lifts will be operating this weekend; the snows are here! (for a little while anyway!!)

Yeah it looks like it could be good cover.
Hey does anyone know where I can rent or lend some yowies or similar snow shoes around launnie for this Saturday?

Have you tried the normal avenues - Paddy Pallin, Mountain Designs etc.....

Wow, amazing amount of snow up on Ben Lomond today (as seen from Launceston); also heaps of snow on Mount Barrow and even some on Mount Arthur!!

Yeah there was a a good 10-20cm of snow last night around lady lake! I should put some pics up later.
Anyway, I rang up and all the shops are booked out of snowshoes! So if anyone from Launnie has a pair that they aren't using this weekend, I would love to hear from you

Went boarding in Mt Field the other day. Plenty of snow up there now after the recent dump. It's just a shame there's only one rope tow.
Cross country skiing would be the go. A great trip I'd imagine out to Mt Field West!

Yeah so it was a bluebird day up Ben lomond today! We only had half a day to spend so I had a wander across the valley to Hamilton crags and checked out the cliffs while my bro went snowboarding. I did have 2 runs on his snowboard after but felt completely out of place without skis haha.
You had a good time Bap? There were lots of red jackets so I didn't bother trying to pick you out

What an awesome day! Great shots - thanks for sharing.

It was a great day. It is some of the best snow cover I have seen in years.
I did notice that there were alot of red jackets around.
Nice pics Nick, did you get any snowshoes in the end?
Since I stayed on the mountain Friday night here is an early morning shot and a shot from near the top of summit tow.

Nice, it's great staying overnight on the mt. We used to stay at the NTAC a lot when we were kids.
Na just had boots and gators, it wasn't that bad though as the snow was quite firm. Sank about 5-10cm
