Valentines Peak

Has anyone been up Valentine's Peak recently?

What is the creek crossing like?

Does anyone know if there is an alternative way up without crossing the creek?

A couple of geocachers went up there on 8/SEP all Ok http://geocaching.com.au/log/2516478. Alternative access is via Helicopter?

I'm going up to do this one on Saturday.
Can anyone give me advice on the start of the current preferred track?
Is it the one described on the wiki - ie. off Kara Road or is the start at the one descibed on Google maps - ie. Guildford / summit roads?
I'm looking for the most commonly accessed route as I know old routes go through Forestry areas.
I'm coming up from Hobart so don't want to miss out on the opportunity to do this walk.

Much thanks in advance.
Stu.

Dunno what it's like up north, but we've had a couple of snow storms here already. And it's expected to get lower tomorrow.

For the record my house is at 110m elevation.......

Found time to fit in an afternoon walk up St Valentines Peak on Saturday afternoon on our way to Burnie from Hobart.
The creek crossing was easy enough, about ankle deep across the log, the hand line coming in handy.
It would have been much deeper a couple days prior to this obviously.
The track could do with some trimming here & there as the bauera is tending to hang over sections, but easy enough to follow.
The ridge traverse across the top was fun, if a little cold & windy, but thankful to get some views from this peak.
4 hours return with my girlfriend in tow so estimated times for most people is pretty accurate, we only spent 15 mins on the top due to the cold wind.
The directions on the wiki link are accurate, I also googled kara road on goole maps which got us to the start of the walk with no dramas.
I really enjoyed this walk as did my girlfriend, one of those classic half day walks with all the trimmings :D

The track follows a road for 700m then this sign indicates the resumption of the walking track (a little over exagerated in this description).

I knew that creek crossing would be fun. Lower than I expect though. All that and no snow :(
