What's with the weather.

Postby walkinTas » Fri 25 Mar, 2011 6:58 pm

February temperatures in Tasmania were below average and February was wetter that usual, says BOM and this included three days of mountain snow. However, the prediction for March through May is for a drier that usual autumn in Tasmania and southern Victoria, but the Australian is reporting that the BOM has warned that the current La Nina will produce wet, cool weather for most of NSW and Queensland throughout April and June and colder that usual tropical temperatures across the country.

A number of warnings have been issued for this weekend in the Northeast Tasmania.

Yep I'll believe it when it happens.

After the slow start to summer they were saying Jan-Mar would be drier than normal. And it certainly wasnt......
Nothing to see here.

It's certainly been an odd summer. And it actually was drier than normal in some parts of the state. I'm pretty sure the SW
(eg. Strathgordon) had below average rain for the summer, maybe Strahan too. The rain in the north was pretty big, but only a little more than what that area had i think in 2004/5. Lots of rain in the north is thanks to the really strong La Nina, which is fading, but slower than expected.

As for the autumn forecast - it could be right. We haven't had a really wet autumn for so long we've all got used to it not raining much then, but on average we get quite a lot of autumn rain, so it wouldn't be hard for it to be "drier than normal" but for us to perceive it as quite wet.

Anyway, we had a nice weekend last week, lots of rain during the week, and it looks nice today and tomorrow - the way it's supposed to be!

Cheers.

Interesting times ey? I've just moved here, but a lot of people I talk to say something along the lines of "crazy weather!" or "It's an indian winter!" or something.

As the great Billy Connelly said

"In Scotland, there is no such thing as bad weather - only the wrong clothes. "

Just substitute Tasmania for Scotland :D

Whinge whinge whinge! Tas has an awesome climate and its great to see everything green after a few years of drought. I lived in Scotland for the first 24 years of my life and I kinda see myself as a bit of an expert on bad weather, and this it aint!

I laid a new lawn on Sunday, and I've spent the last two days herding cows in the rain and milking udders covered in mud and *&%$#!.

OK, nature, joke's over. Enough is enough.
