Hi, was up on Cathedral Mtn after Xmas and my lady and I spent a day circumnavigating Chalice Lake. About half way around the eastern side we found a substantial but very old looking cairn line running to the eastern rim in the direction of Rogoona, this was about half way between the track in from Grail Falls and an old cairn line that leads up to Convent Hill. It seemed so substantial that I wonder if it was an old route over the edge and down to Cloister Lagoon. Anyone know this route? (we didn't have time to check it out) While I'm at it, we were just at Lake Myrtle (enjoying four nights of riotous sunsets) and wondering if anyone had bashed across to Cloister from there? The terrain looks doable without too much stress and such a route would make a nice circuit of Cathedral and Rogoona without backtracking to the Moses or Jackson Creeks routes.

Im sure lots of people have.
I did a circuit that went from up the lake myrte track to lake myrtle where we left the track and went up the face of Rogoona then descended the south eastern end to the junction lake track and spent the night at junction lake hut, second day walked along the track from junction hut to the north of Cloister lagoon, left the track again and walked up the ridge and around the south side of Chalice and on to cathedral, where we then walked along the ridge line bagging the appropriate peaks and camped somewhere close to bishops peak. Next morning walked to Dean Bluff and then walked down to chapter lake, crossing the river above grail falls where we meet the track again and were back at the car by 1. A nice circuit where we didnt have to repeat any ground

Hey felidelavida....
Looks like you've walked the track between Grail falls & Chapter Lake. If so, could you kindly advise how long it took...??
Any info would be great.

Hmmm, once you're up on top of Grail Falls maybe 45min from memory, it wasn't too far.....we took a bit longer though for photos and stuff whilst walking along the beautiful creek that runs from the Lake to feed the falls, it was a really lovely section of walking.

Chapter Lake to the creek crossing just below Chalice took me about 40 minutes, I think, except for the time out taking a few photos at the top of the falls. Then one wanders around Chalice. I got from about 1 km short of Junction Lake to Tent Tarn in an easy day, including an hour's break at Chapter and a lot of photos on the way. Moses Ck carpark to Tent Tarn would be even shorter. Enough time to get up to Cathedral or Bishop in a day, even for someone as slow as me.
Have a good trip, it's a brilliant area up there, the views from the cliffs are some of the best in Tassie.

NNW,
Can you recall how long from the car (Mersey re) to Chapter lake? I'm heading up with him on Friday, like to get an idea of timing. Ta

I did it the other way around, spent the night at Chapter after coming down from Cathedral/Bishop etc. Then out via the Moses Ck track and along the road to the Lake Myrtle carpark.
Then moved the car, walked into Wild Dog, and climbed King David's from Herod's Gap after setting up camp. And that was a fairly easy day, if longish by some people's standards.
According to my notes, it was a bit under two hours (1hr & 45 mins, to be precise) from Chapter to the road. That's mainly downhill in that direction though, having to climb up might be slower.

Cathedral/Twin Spires/Bishop etc. I kind of assumed you'd be heading up there. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Well,
We went today, Thomas, my son and myself into Chapter Lake. Was a great day apart from the ordinary weather putting a damper on picture taken, didnt want to wreck my camera or lens by water!
Couple of pics, truly a special place.
