South Coast Track

Postby hiker77 » Sun 10 Jul, 2011 8:59 pm

Hi All

I am planning on walking the South Coast Track solo on Boxing Day this year and have a couple of questions:

1. Is this an easy track to walk solo? I did the Overland Track solo last year and had no problems but am concerned about completing the prion boat crossing.
2. How busy does it get at this time of year? (boxing day/new years) Will campsites be overcrowded?

Cheers

Hi Hiker.
The SCT was the first major solo walk I did 4-5 years ago, it is a good (if not muddy) track all the way through. The boat crossing isnt too bad, and in actual fact you will most likely have others waiting at the same time as you and will be able to offer to row a group of ladies (at least thats what i did) across, then somone can help you at the other end. The hardest parts of the boats is dragging them from the water back to the safety of the high tide line.

It will be very busy i'd imagine, but the campsites are huge.
Nothing to see here.
