car vandalism - mt wellington

Postby savenger » Sun 17 Jul, 2011 8:36 pm

hey people

just a heads up that our inconspicuous corolla was pretty seriously vandalised when it was left overnight in a parking bay off pinnacle rd on mt wellington. most of the windows were smashed with rocks and the panels were kicked in on one side. looks like it was drunken kids - there were cans of UDL and random bits of discarded clothing around... the cops had a field day, looks like there's prints and DNA all over the place... but still a massive pain in the *&%$#!.

might just be a one off, but the traffic guys seemed to think it was a regular occurrence...

just a caution not to park in that area at night!!

Savenger, no way to treat a visitor to this wonderful state. Hope they don't put you off too much, my sympathy to you for seeing you having to deal with this.

If the courts dealt with these derelicts properly instead of handing out slaps on the wrist, and made examples of them and cases like them, I think it would go a long way toward reducing the problem.
My thoughts...

^ thanks for the kind words

my dad lives in tas and it was his car... it has tassie plates and was bought locally so it's not like it was targeted as being a 'visitor' car. I've never seen this sort of thing happen, let alone to an incredibly plain, daggy looking 5 year old corolla with no real standout features, it's baffling. The only thing they took was a few dollars of change from the glove compartment.

of course it wouldn't put me off, I love tassie! it'd take more than a bunch of reckless idiots to stop me enjoying this beautiful state. not to mention the overwhelming majority of locals are incredibly nice and would be astounded that such things happen. I don't think I'll ever leave a car overnight on pinnacle road again though!

that sucks! Sorry about that. Nothing in the World makes me more grumpy then senseless acts of destruction.

I reckon that as a forum, we ought to write a petition to Lara Gaddafi...oh...I mean Giddings, and demand that she protect the state's extremely important tourism industry by taking decisive action against this sort of thing. How hard can it be to stake out the Walls of Jerusalem car park, or put a hidden camera up at Waterfall Bay walk?
