Joel wrote:A bit off topic. Do you guys know a guy from Hobart did Frenchmans in a day but FREE SOLO CLIMBED (no ropes) up the face on a grade 17 rock climb. I mean he ran in climbed up the face, fricking SCARY!!, then topped out , went down the bushwalkers route and then RAN all the way out. In a day.
I can't believe more people don't know about that. Incredibaly athletic and really ballsy.
Yeah, I've read his blog (a few times in disbelief!!), amazing effort! I had actually pencilled in a 'day attack' on Frenchmans for late January (2011), gave myself a week looking for the right weather which didn't end up complying - fancy that, the west coast's weather not being favourable!! Oh well, just another one that stays on the 'to do' list!!

Some people solo way harder than grade 17. If you're soloing, then 300m is not much different from 20m. The consequence of a mistake is the same. Did he carry a tent in case of emergency?

Looks like you had the challenge you were looking for. Glad it all went well.
So now you can prepare for the Ossa assault.
