Anyone got an Idea as to proposed cost to walk this Track and will there be an off Season like the OLT ??

Good questions. (Will there be an off season for the OLT? Should there be?) How to price this one in the brave new re-imagining, cost recovery or market skimming?

I reckon its a safe bet to say it will be very similar to Overland in terms of (daily) costs and season (at least initially...same as Overland)
Bound to be something on both issues amongst all the paperwork/links here

One Cape = $100
Two Capes = $200
Three Capes = $300

If they finish the track, I'll be happy to do it.
I'd rather camp than hut it.

But there will be no fee for days walks. So two of the capes can be done without overnight and the third might be possible as a day walk if the new track is as good as they say.

Is the season on the OLT track not linked to the weather conditions? Surely if they can take $200 per head year round, that is the approach they are likely to take?

great walks (groan) you have to instigate bookings in the huts or they just get over run, the easier you make the track and the nicer the accom the more they get over run and without a booking system in summer at least its chaos. in NZ more and more huts re ending up on a booking system because of over subscription. more tracks now require booking further and further ahead because they get attention in the mainstream media. theres lots of back packers looking out for the easier multi day walks, as the track and facilities get better the no of people who are attracted to them grow exponentially, then hey presto its cradle valley the overland track all over again. "upgrading facilities" can end up so counter productive, NZ used to build masses of rough tracks cramped basic huts that were often literally just galvanised iron nailed onto a wooden frame. and maybe no way of heating the hut... but now they only build high quality heavily insulated huts with masses of rooms, dining tables and seats, cookers. the tracks are benched and the huts are more likely to be booked out or overcrowded if theres no booking system.

$500 full fare, no off season reductions when I checked out the booking system. The local B&B's and the like would be loving those prices.

Yep, and apparently 'the revenue raised will fund costs associated with the experience.' ... but we all know the state of the budget of P&WS

. Call me a skeptic.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-17/b ... ck/6784448I have also heard they are out of time and money for stage 3 around Cape Raoul. Hrmmm
But also seen that 'Stage 3 will be constructed once Stage 2 is operational'

why no camping options? it speaks of snobbery, just catering to the well endowed...
except for the milford track, all the NZ great walks have cheaper camping options.. and kids are free..

That's good to hear, Wayno. Despite multiple trips to Tasmania we haven't visited NZ, partly because our uninformed impression has been that most of the walks involve hut stays. For us it isn't about cost. We just greatly prefer tent camping over huts. I would pay extra to not be in a hut.
It's a shame what they've done here, in my opinion.

The no-camping controversy has bubbled over, as expected.
"Prior to Three Capes, there were two recognised and three informal camping sites in the Cape Pillar area," PWS said on its Facebook page.
"A number of these were by-passed by the new track and all of them have been closed and are being rehabilitated.
The Three Capes experience is a cabin-based experience only, this has been designed to minimise impacts on the environment.
There will be one campsite with capacity for about six tents."

Seems someone is listening.
'Camping will be permitted in designated site
s.
Planning is underway for a camping facility to support the overnight walk to Cape Pillar and this will be available by the time the Three Capes Track opens on 23 December.
While camping facilities for this track are still being finalised they will not be limited to 6 tents. The earlier advice included on our Facebook page was not correct in this respect. We will ensure the facilities are sufficient to meet anticipated demand.
There are also discounted rates for concession holders, children and student groups.
In addition, the State Government is considering a range of options that will afford as many Tasmanians as possible the opportunity to enjoy the extraordinary Three Capes Track experience.
Up until this morning, 524 bookings for the new Three Capes Track Experience have been confirmed - from Tasmania, around the country and around the world.'
