If you plan on using the coal at the hut, take some firefighters with you. They are not much fun to light.

I can confirm that there is about 2 tons of coal at Scott-Kilvert now. I was there on Saturday night and emptied a few bags into the coal bunker, if you're heading up that way just open the big white bags and tip a few of the smaller bags into the bunker. I'm assuming a parks employee will be tasked with doing this job so maybe we can show our support and thanks for the coal by giving them a hand.

IIRC the bags were put in the bunker sealed, i.e. not loosely tipped in.
It might be better if you asked at the Parks Office at Cradle/Waldheim before doing that.

Me too - spent a night there last Thurdsay 29th May and there were a couple of chopper bags full of bagged coal. There was only my brother-in-law and myself so we didn't light the heater, but had dinner early and enjoyed a l o n g night's sleep. The hut temperature stayed at a steady 5°C, and the effect of this when cooking bacon for breakfast made for some interesting photographic lighting effects. There were only a few pieces of firelighters in a ziplock bag, but it would be great for anyone heading that way to take in a few of boxes of firelighters to leave there for the winter.

Here's a photo showing the coal heater in the Ingle Nook at the western end of the hut.
