It's not the substance of this thread, but I wanted to add a 'me too' on the subject of paper quality. I use British OS maps all the time, and they last for years. On recent trips to Tassie, I've found that the current Tasmaps only seem to last for one walk: they start tearing along crease lines from day 1, and are in bits by the end of the trip. I wondered if it was 'just me' - but, in view of Ent's comment above, apparently not.

I'm sure this hasn't always been the case. Has the paper stock been changed at some point?

For the skilled and experienced I'm sure you are right. My suspicion is that the details are being removed so that the unskilled and inexperienced aren't enticed to explore and eventually require assistance. It's nanny state stuff.

I don't agree with it either.
