Not when I was booking - the fee was automatically added even if I wanted to stick with the seat I already had. The booking process pushed me into a "here, choose your seat screen - that'll be $4 thanks!" without giving me an obvious option of not doing so or skipping it. If that wasn't the case, it was not indicated very well at all.

There's an option to skip seat allocation. They just don't make it obvious. You don't have to pay the $4.

Dirty rats!

Thanks, if I ever have to fly with them again I'll save myself a few bucks.

Yeah, very bizarre. There are some weird people out there trying very hard to come up with bizarre ideas. How about an inheritance tax?
Inheritance tax used to be high in Sweden. It was up to 70% on large fortunes. Unrealized capital gains tax was not deducted and the sum of these concentrations were near 100%. It happened that the inheritance tax and capital gains tax was greater than the wealth of the value fell between the death and the sale of shares or property. [1] Many older wealthy chose these tax incentive to move to another country.
(thank gawd it is now abolished)
On topic, I'm happy to pay my park pass fee but I know the OLT fee is stopping me from doing it. Hoping they will not extend the no-go (for me) period or apply it to other areas.

steve72,
Where did you meet this lady ranger? I work at cradle and there are no femal park rangers up here. There are a few women that work in the visitor center, but that is quite different to being a park ranger. Did she have blond hair by any chance?

Hi Joel,
I could have my "job titles mixed up" (my mistake) , but it was at the service desk in the vistor centre, to her credit she was very helpfull as I was looking into doing an overnighter to Scott Kilvert, she sold me the maps and suggested which tracks to take to get there taking into account I would be taking young children.
She was wearing a parks uniform though & no can't remeber the color of her hair.
The discussion came up ( see another thread that I started) where I wanted to walk from Cradle Mountain & out via Arm River ie first couple of days of track, and I was looking to pay a part fee (which unfortunately is not an option), the lady thought that I wanted to come in via Arm River and then advised me re the possiable fee coming in and to ring Hobart ( she gave me a name to call but I have misplaced it).
Having said all that, I am quite happy to pay to use the facilities as somebody has to pay for the upkeep etc... my only gripe is that when I take 3 children with me to do the OT track in the better seasons then becomes unaffordable. Whilst I know that there are other tracks to walk etc it would be nice to do the OT with the children and doing it in the off season with kids is not an option (for saftey sake) that I would be prepared to take.
Enough ranting though, I was up at Cradle (stayed at Scout Hut) last weekend & I was quite impressed that people would be working on a weekend constructing a new bridge (on the Marion LO Kitchen Hut track) so I fully appreciate the need to charge fees for upkeep for bridges don't build themselves.
Cheers
Steve

Are you sure the workers weren't volunteers?
And your parks pass would help cover the use....
Totally agree with you re: it being harder on young families!

Hi Liamy77
I have no idea of they were volunteers or not, but I figure once you have a parks uniform on, it should not matter, for that person is representing Parks and I should not have to ask what thier actual role is before I can believe anything they say.
I do wish to say again though that this person was very helpfull !!!
I guess I sit in the middle happy to pay something but not the excessive fees charged at present for OT in summer
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
so a worker and a parks employee.. those in the visitor centre have to wear a uniform from day 1 i think... so there are likely 'occasional' slip ups.
