ha ha.. maybe you all just bought the same Book?

Book(s)
Frankland range isnt mentioned in Abels. We've had Eldon trip planned for about a year now anyway. Planned like professionals, not on a whim.

Haha yeah, or at least use the same list. Is it a competition?

Sorry guys forgot you owned the Range, we will remember to ask permission next time. Forgot what these forums were like, thanks to the few people who answered the original inquiry.

Settle down...we know Jared was enthused for this trip by our plans (as i have talked to him about it on several occassions) and just wanted to be sure you guys weren't going to be on our coat tails or at any of the camp sites along the way with us as many of them are a very tight squeeze & we will already be pushing them to the limits with our largeish (8) group. No need to get all defensive. All of us being friends with Jared will mean you will probably have some useful notes from our groups trip prior to your departure. Jared seems to appreciate our desire (not ownership) to have the range to ourselves (where / if possible), surely you do to? It's a big part of what remote off-track trips are about for us...and you?

Thanks for clarifying stu.
ILUV, remember this isn't the private forum, and not every knows when you are taking the mickey. I have no issues with friendly banter, but not everyone on this forum knows you personally. By the way, this trip was planned long before I joined in on it.

Thanks for the reminder Jared.

Actualy what was the issue with us getting a charter? I remember it was going to be expensive but it never seeemed like we could actually book someone?
My bet chris_a would be to try and organise someone you know with a boat etc...
I remember seeing the Eldons off in the distance from the summit of Mt Gould with Stu back in 2007; pretty much all of the walking I have done since has been with an eye towards being able to visit the Eldons one day.

Yeh they were on Holidays Mike. I since had 2 calls from XXX offering they're services. But yes it was expensive, and we had since made private arrangements. They also needed a month or 2's notice in advance as they start to get busy around that time. So if these guys arent planning to do the trip until uni timetables come out, they may miss the boat so to speak.

most XXX services are expensive ILUV, i thought you would have learnt that by now. You wouldnt want to pay 2 bucks for a XXX service now would you.

Whats the difference between 'a few showers', and 'a shower or two'? There will be at least one more high crossing the state, surely they could put the rosy glasses on and tip one as 'mostly sunny'
All the best eh..

I saw this forecast this morning after ILUVSWTAS commented on the good forecast they had. There are definately some big highs coming through though. I'll be waving to them on top of Gell on Wednesday. Hopefully the skies stay clear for two weeks time!

We're hoping for sunglasses rather than rosy glasses.

A little bit of rain don't hurt, but you need to translate that forecast to "+1200m +big boulders +exposed camping +12day packs". Still, high coming through... that's gotta be good, right?!

You get a slightly less pessimistic viewpoint if you click on the detailed forecast for the town in that it says "partly cloudy" rather than "a few showers", surely "mostly sunny" would be far cheerier? but hey what do I know?
Nuts, did you get your planned trip into this area? weathers been pretty good recently so I hope you did.
Jared, are you attempting Gell as a very long day trip or a overnighter? Hope the weather is clear on Wednesday to give you a wave!!

Thanks doogs, yer I had the weather window, bags sat in the hall since Saturday (15th) when i got a nasty virus (excuse i know, feel a bit *&^%$#! weak even mentioning it).. o'well, least i'll have more modern trip notes

(even though i'd rather go without if detailed notes ended up posted here..)
I know a few people who have done this one and its an epic in every way

O, btw doogs, that LX5 lens cap arrived but i'm almost certain its too smal (LX3 perhaps)l, a bit late now but i'll look into it.. meh, hopefully you dont need a lens cap
Thu 27 Oct, 2011 3:12 pm
I doubt anyone will post trip notes as it is a off track walk in a remote wilderness area. But photos in the gallery and photo comps are highly likely now I have a great camera, thank you!

Hope you are feeling better

Alls good for the lens cap, Ollster might need one as he has an LX3

Initially I was going in as a long daywalk, but I got an extra day off work, so I will go overnight and run to the Cheyne Range as well. I still plan a pretty long day on the first day, just for fun! Last time I checked it was gonna rain on Wednesday, but that is subject to change no doubt!
Thu 27 Oct, 2011 4:17 pm
Thanks for your kind thoughts Jared and Paul, thats really nice!!
Jared - good luck on the Cheyne, pity your going to run it, it's a truly beautiful area and well worth taking the time to smell the roses....

Good luck on the Eldons - cut us a track! Hope the weather clears for you. I'm now going two nights, I just got my roster and I will have enough time to walk a little way in and spend an extra night. If its that good then I'm sure a return visit wont kill me either!
Fri 28 Oct, 2011 7:08 am
Thanks Jared I am sure we will have a blast

The way the weather has been I reckon that high pressure system will still be stuck in the Bight when you do your Eldons trip!!!!
