Good luck. I last saw copies in M.Designs a few months ago. Maybe ALLGOODS or Paddy Pallin?

Yeah, might be difficult! We tried just about all of the small/secondhand bookshops in Hobart, and managed to find a single copy with the guy at Tassie Books or whatever it's called up the top of Elizabeth St. Sounds as though we were pretty lucky! Was talking to one of the staff in Passion8 yesterday (very nice and knowledgeable guy, btw!) who suggested that some copies may still be available directly from Bill Wilkinson, but he didn't sound very optimistic. I'm not sure whether that's what the link provided above is for or not, but that's about the best I can do!

^Checked there a few months back, none, and weren't able to order any in either. May have changed since though, and they definitely have plenty of copies of vol. 2!

Good-o, when I was in there and looked maybe a year ago they had 20+ seems climbing Abels has become rather popular...

Hi manged to get a copy of Volume One direct from Bill Wilkinson back in January 2012 :D He emailed to say he had four copies left at that stage.

> Dear Tim, I have 4 copies of Volume 1 left at $34.95. Please add $9.00
> for express P & P. Send a cheque or post office money order to Bill
> Wilkinson, P. O. Box 599 Moonah, Tas 7009. Kindest regards, Bill.

Could try him at "Bill Wilkinson" <theabels2@gmail.com> See how you go.

Not long since Birchalls had copies - could be worth checking.

I found a copy at the Salamanca market a week ago but it was his last one. All the book shops I tried had none. Volume 2 says vol 1 was to be re released at the time Vol2 came out. I dont know if that will happen at this stage. Maybe they thought there were enough copies still available at that time. My guess is that there is enough demand to justify another print run.

I second this, they usually have a few copies.

You wouldn't have two copies, would you? I really, really need to replace that lost one . . .

Assuming you're asking me - no, sorry, it's my only copy.
I found this a few years ago, I can't even remember where (Dymocks or Book City, probably), and grabbed it.
Amazing how it was so discounted then!

Looks like that bookshop was doing an outdoor shop style sale as my original copy purchased from a small local independent bookshop only cost me $9.95 full price

A few suggestions:

The guy from Just Tassie Books in Hobart told me at Salamanca market in January that he has a number of copies.

The walking clubs also hear of when copies come up for grabs. You can let them know you are after one.

The State library has a copy of Vol 1 as well.

Hi all,

Fullers Bookshop in Launceston told me yesterday that the agent called in and said that there will be a reprint later in the year and for me to call him just before Christmas.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi bigbird,

Yes Vol 1 and yes great news. I found one online at a 2nd hand book site in QLD and paid $40 including postage but then they couldn't find it and refunded the money.

Cheers,
Andrew

I'll try to look into this further and see if I can get any more information for all.

Okay, the best that I can tell is that this reprint is by no means guaranteed; those of you who are familiar with the delays attached to Abels 2 might get the picture. :) These sorts of reprints aren't cheap and as I think I said in another thread, there'd be a lot of work attached to updating the track notes and maps.

So we can hope, and I'll let you know if we hear anything certain, but in the meantime, if you see a reasonably priced second-hand copy...

Then focus on updating the track notes & maps, and put it out as an e-book first. Track notes & maps aren't exactly what you call "detailed" anyway.

Does anybody know of an online resource for the Abel peaks. Even just a list of names and locations.

Haven't double checked but it's probably correct, and some other lists for your amusement...

The Bushwalk Australia Wiki has a list of 'High Places' (over 1,000m) sorted by altitude. Although an 'Abel' is not simply based on altitude alone.

Just curious : has anybody tried to "bag" the Abels one by one on consecutive days ? I remember this crazy French alpinist who tried to climb the 82 summits over 4000 m in the Alps in 82 days, and died at the 64th, Patrick Berhault.
