Every time I walk to Pine Valley, it feels a little like time travel, as my latest blog post explains. http://www.naturescribe.com/2012/06/walking-with-dinosaurs.html

cheers

How about you explain it here, rather than posting "bait and switches" trying to get people to go to your blog.

+1. It is a little sad that someone who has a wealth of bushwalking knowledge and experience chooses to post on this forum most commonly to advertise their own blog :(

Okay - for those who don't want to read the blog, the post is about the vegetation along that last hour leading to Pine Valley hut - and also up on The Labyrinth. Those places are basically dominated by trees with links back to Gondwana, and the time of the dinosaurs. And as I often walk with "crusty" walkers, the title "Walking With Dinosaurs" has a double meaning

Yes - I am probably "baiting" forum users to have a look at my blog, but only because I enjoy writing for people who may share some of the same thoughts and feelings as I do about walking. And my posts are too long, quirky or wordy to go on the forum in full. But I'm certainly not chasing $$$ - I don't make a cent from the blog.

In fairness, a search through my posts shows that I'm also a frequent contributor to all sorts of other topics. But if anyone is bothered by me pointing to my blog, please vote with your mouse click, and don't go there.

cheers

Peter (the Baiting Blogger)

For the record, we encourage people to post links to their own personal bushwalking related web sites - providing they also contribute here and the posts with such links do include at least some information. Thanks Peter for the additional information.

I demand he delete the link! The bait had been laid and I was sucked in to reading a good and interesting blog post from an interesting blogger I had never visted before! Perhaps a blocking from the forums for such a heinous crime!

I haven't got any problems with Peters blog site, I have read a few blogs and they are very well written. I just don't like the new topic on here every time a new one is written. Maybe a sticky thread on here were folk can advertise any new blogs they have written on their blog sites??

That's an interesting proposition. Something for the team here to consider. We've currently got some other things on our plate, but please raise this again later on if we forget about it.

If you had've been around more than five minutes, you'd realise there is a historical aspect to this. We've gone through this before - had people who've started threads for the sole purpose of getting people to go to their blog. I don't give a rats if it's not for advertising dollars - it's still discourteous and irritating.

Maybe these sort of things could have their own sub forums so they can be ignored by those who don't want to have to click through to someone's blog?

Or like doogs said, a sticky.

Goodness me!

Who would have thought this would cause such a stir. I think we should all consider ourselves lucky that Peter a) writes some really great blog posts and b) lets us know about it!

If you aren't interested then don't click on the posts he starts! I'd much rather see a new post started about these blogs than some of the other cr_p that gets brought up on this forum!

"Bait and switch"?? Good grief, it's the interwebz people.

....anyway, check out the diplodocus episode of the BBC Walking With Dinosaurs series. They used sections of the Walls of Jerusalem for a backdrop then superimposed a family of diplodocus walking down the valley. It's really spectacular.

I for one enjoy the links posted to other bushwalking sites, and Peter's writing is always interesting. Perhaps as was done later this time, Peter includes a paragraph about the blog that will allow people to decide whether to click or not click on the link would be useful.

WHoo - what a reaction and I just thought he was complaining about his walking companions.
