Mount Hopetoun Trip

Postby Summit_Bagger » Sun 18 Nov, 2012 11:43 am

G'Day,
I'm thinking of heading down to Mt Hopetoun week after next, via Farmhouse Creek, has only been down there recently? Any suggestions or tips?
Also thinking of heading down past Cutting Camp if the weather and time allows me.

I'm heading down for Hopetoun and friends this week so I'll let you know how it goes. The old track may no longer be usable so that will prolong the approach. Camping at one of the old campsites or top of the lead. Expect at least 2-3hrs of very thick scrub one way on the ascent of the peak from the top of the lead, it becomes rocky higher up. Hopetoun is a tough summit with one choice of route up the peak only, unless you want to approach from the other direction which from all I have heard is just as hard and takes about twice as long.
Recent Peaks: Snowy South, Ben Nevis, Victoria, Blackboy, Bastion

Thanks! Hopefully the weather will be alright for you, it looks like a good one so I'm keen to get up it.
I look forward to hearing how the trip goes

Hi all,
I'm after a grid reference for a good spot to leave the Farmhouse Creek track between Forest Camp and Paperback Camp, in order to cross the Cracroft River and meet the old track. If anybody has such a pearl of wisdom it would be most appreciated. :) PM if preferred.
Cheers,
Rohan

I think anyone going that way would just visually navigate that section (i.e. look for clear leads when you are out there). Its going to be, by far, the easiest section of the off track part of your trip.

Thanks Dave. I had guessed it might be reasonably self-evident but wanted to be sure. It seems that the challenging part is on the ascent itself.
