First Substantial Snowfall for 2013

Fri 19 Apr, 2013 8:15 pm

From ABC News

Parts of Tasmania have received their first substantial snowfall for the year.

Snow has fallen on Hobart's Mount Wellington, Mount Field in the Derwent Valley and on the Central Highlands.
The weather bureau's Anna Forrest says it is not surprising, with snow usually arriving in late April, early May.
"We had a cold front go through overnight Wednesday night and the air behind it has been sourced from down close to Antarctica, so it's just a cold outbreak that's been brought up by a high pressure system that's moving towards the state."
Snow had earlier closed Pinnacle Road on Hobart's Mount Wellington.
Police are urging motorists to drive to the conditions following several accidents this morning

It was 0 degrees at Smithton this morning

Going to be another cold one tonight too. No rain/snow forecast tomorrow from what I know though. Nice little window to get up to the Walls for a few days. :)

There was a dumping of snow in the Walls of Jerusalem. I missed out, walked in the day after however there was still a fair amount on the higher slopes, and appeared to be a fair amount on Clumner Bluff as well.

Was a fair amount of ice on Solomons Throne, plus snow on the tops of King Davids Peak as well. Was quite pretty.
