TRC Tourism is conducting a survey on behalf of the Wellington Park Management Trust to assist in planning for a multi use trail between Wellington Park and the Snowy Ranges in Tasmania.

Your assistance in providing details of your trail based recreational activity and your views regarding the proposed trail will be greatly appreciated. The questionnaire should take around 10 minutes to complete. All respondents may enter a lottery for a Kathmandu Outdoor Adventure Store shopping voucher valued at $200.

The survey is anonymous and responses will be reported in aggregate. The survey will close at 5.00 PM Australian Eastern Standard Time on the 31st May 2013.

Done. I've seen this discussed in previous threads, with what seemed to be a reasonable amount of opposition. Personally, I have nothing against making it a multi-use track, we walkers have plenty of tracks which will never be accessible to bikes and horses, so one which is won't make a difference. Not quite sure of the exact planned route, but I don't see that there would be anything of major concern environmentally, though I stand to be corrected on that one.

Only reservation I really have is whether the money might be better spent elsewhere. There are more attractive areas deserving of such treatment in the state, I'm sure. Having said that though, they are also not as accessible as something starting right next to Hobart, so I can see the reason for the planned track!

Better get out to finish of the Snowys before the crowds arrive I guess...

I agree. It would be great for Hobart to expand its' credentials as an outdoor activity hub. Although I'm not too sure about horses and MTB crossing the Snowies, maybe an improved walking track across the range and a lower level route for wheels and hooves?

By opening it to bikes and horses makes it much more likely to go ahead. I for one would like to see it happen.

I don't mind the idea of connecting the two ranges, but I would hate to see the damage wheels and hooves would do to fragile alpine landscapes. There is a plethora of reports on the impact of highland grazing and wild horses in the Kosciuszko region, we need to learn from our mistakes of the past.

No I haven't been to the Snowy's! But I agree with you. When I said I would like see it go ahead I was speaking only for my own interests (bushwalking)

Spot on Doogs a high elevation option could be across Snowy North for horses and bikes but Nevada and Snowy South would be criminal. Amazing country.

Given the ascent routes from Snowdrift to Nevada, that is probably safe from access by bikes and horses, but Snowy South is a different matter. Must admit, I do like the idea of a through track from the big smoke . . .

Survey done. I think this would be a great track if the right route is followed. If areas considered too sensitive are walking only, linking in with multi-use sections then there's no reason it couldn't work. I'm sorry I missed the recent HWC trek along the route.

I'm rather concerned that horse-riding is getting equal consideration with MTBs and walking. It's almost impossible to limit the damage to an area when you let horses in - parasites and weeds get in and spread alarmingly quickly. Plus the possibility of horses getting loose and creating a brumby problem - the damage they do up here in the High Country is depressing (and getting worse all the time) - and it's something Tassie is blessedly free of so far.
