I'm planning to walk the Tasman Coastal Trail in November. I have tried to find as many information on the trail and on Tasmania in general as I could, but because I am not known with Tasmania (or even Australia, as I live in Europe), I still have some questions. I found this forum, and I hope you guys can help me out a bit.

but I feel it only mentions the common sense items.
I am in general fit condition, and I am known with walking long distances, so I don't feel that would be a problem, but I am not known with the tasmanian wildlife. What kind of animals should I expect on a walk like this, and are there any specific guidelines for them (except from the common sense of keeping distance). Should I take precautions againts bugs/musquitos etc?
Same goes for plants, is there anything I have to be on the watch for, or should I be fine with boots and gaiters?

Does anybody know where I can refill water along the trail? Or should I bring enough water for the entire trip from the start?

I saw on google maps that the entire trail is pretty close to some villages (about 30/40 kilometers max). Does anyone know if there is mobile coverage along the entire trail?

Gaiters, boots and something to keep the wind out. The east coast of the state is a good idea, thinking of heading there myself, lovely this time of year. No Bears here some Mosquitoes though not malaria caring. You might be lucky enough to see a snake. The phone: there are some places you will not get reception. Generally only half a day’s walk away though. Water... I hear someone did get sick on the cape pillar track, be cautious. I find most creeks and flowing streams good to drink from. There is not always water available. Happy walking.

Doubt one would be seeing too many snakes at this time of year? Would imagine they've all gone off to hide, though I guess this could depend on how lucky you are with warm weather!

Should think that possums are likely to be your major animal annoyance, though I've not walked the Coastal Trail. They tend to be the more frustrating of the native species, and are very good at finding your food, and destroying whatever is between them and it. Not too much to do except don't leave your pack outside I guess.

Can't help with much else I'm afraid, hope the weather is kind!

Thank you for your answers. I asked the question about mobile coverage because I will be walking alone, so I guess I cannot rely on my mobile phone in case of emergency. Do you know what alternatives I have? I read about PLB's, but they are quite expensive (even if hired).

Of course, safety is more important then money, I just find it hard to oversee the risks. Would you hire an PLB for a trip like this, or not?

I have another question of a different kind: Does anybody know of a place in Hobart where I could leave my belongings that I don't want to take on the walk? Something like the lockers they have at large train stations.

I’m not sure about your plb dilemma and I guess if you’re not sure your best to take one with you…
And yes bigbird opossums are your enemy and then there are the Devils and Quells, love them like them and 'leave my food alone you little *#@!'
A lovely day today, I spent it walking up high yellow bluff and back with my partner. There is a good stop for the view half way up… Does anyone know if there is a good view to the north over the top? I got up there and enjoyed a little bolder hopping and found a spot for a late lunch with some sun. Not enough time to wonder further daylight schedules.

$40 a week for something that may save your life is not expensive. I carry one on every walk I go on, even if it is a touristy walk with a group of people, but even more so when I walk solo. My life is one thing I don't want to play games of chance with!

As you will be walking in November you will be less likely to encounter Serpents especially on this track however I would take heed of this comment from parks .

Water
"There are not a lot of water collection sources along the Tasman Coastal Trail. Ensure that you carry a large water bottle and a water bladder if possible. When you do come to an area for water collecting along the track always top up your water bottle. When you are approaching the end of your day's walk also fill up your water bladder at the first water collection site you come to."

Alright, so if I understand correctly I don't have to worry about animals, as long as I leave them alone, and keep my food in my bag in the tent I sleep in.

About water: I read that part on the website as well, and seakar said that there is not always water available. Does this mean I should bring enough water for the entire trip at the beginning? That is not a problem, but as 10 litres of water is 10 kg of backpack weight, I'd rather not take it with me if I can do with 4 litres and refill it at every chance.
