Hi all,

I'm keen to go on a overnight trip in the south west. I've got only a couple of days and can't really think of anything exciting I could do apart from what I have done already. Been, lake Rhona, Mt. Anne, and also have done the Western Arthurs, so not to keen to go to those places again unless I have a bit more time up my sleeves to do the Anne circuit or the WA's again. I'd be keen on something similar to Mt Anne, i.e. camp on a plateau with nice views, and summit a peak close by if possible. So over to you...

Hamilton Range, Wilmot Range, Schnells Ridge, Mt Bobs, Picton or Sth Pictons, Weld, beyond Adamsons, Clear Hill/The Thumbs, Mt Wright/Stepped Hills, Mt Field....

That should get you started

Wilmot Range or Weld sound good. You mentioned in your trip report from the Frankland-Wilmot traverse that the first campsite was the worst, any particular reason, or were the others just better.

You've done Mt Anne but have you done the circuit. Walk from Red Tape Creek to The Lonely Tarns and climb Sarah Jane and Lots Wife/ Either return the way you went in or finish the circuit. If the weather is bad just go to Lake Judd.

I've not traversed The Franklands sam only having been as far as Sprent on The Wilmots. I suspect it was the worst of a very good set of campsites on that traverse ie very good

Yeh the first campsite is just on the range in buttongrass, where the others are all probably in the top 10 campsites i've stayed at.

Sorry about the mix up stepbystep. Not sure at this stage where I will go since the weather doesn't look all that great for the coming days and winds are supposedly quite strong. So Mt weld is propably a bit more sheltered. Probably the the Wilmot range has to wait until I have time to do the whole thing.

Yep the camping below Weld would be ok in a westerly flow but perhaps tricky to find with low vis. Wilmot would be pretty awful I'd reckon. Mt Field has some huts to escape the weather.

that was my thought as well, Mt Field is another option and midweek it shouldn't be to busy. I guess I pack my stuff, drive out there and see how I feel.

As with most off track range walking, the campsites exist where you want them to exist.....
