Watch out for rockfalls on Face Track @ Cradle Mt

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 2 night stay at Scout Lodge. Yesterday we did a long day walk to Lake Rodway, Scott Kilvert Hut and returned via the Face Track in the afternoon. It was quite a windy day with intermittent drizzle on and off. I know the signs are there warning of the Face Track as a potential rock fall area and we have walked that track several times before but not really taken a lot of notice. About half way across the track yesterday there was clear evidence of a very recent and quite significant rock fall - a number of fresh tree limbs and foliage had been taken out and there were large rocks that had fallen down onto the track. It would have been seriously messy for anyone walking the track at the time! This was spread across about 30 metres of the track so would have been hard to dodge or shelter from. From the look of the tree limbs and fresh soil we are guessing it may have only happened yesterday before we walked through. Needless to say we stepped out pretty quickly to get through this part of the track. I love the Face Track but it certainly spooked us a bit yesterday and I'll be keeping eyes and ears open if I walk it again. The size of the rocks and the distance it was spread across certainly had the potential to cause serious injury or worse. Other than that, we had a great walk.
