Can you walk along the Huon River from Scotts Peak Dam to the campsite at Mackays Track / 7 Mile Creek junction???
Remember being told there is a track or pad.
Pros and cons???

EDIT - seniors moment , just rereading this ...are you wanting to walk beside/in the river as an alternative to Mckays Track?? Not sure that is possible

Not sure I've heard of this track/pad - I'd be glad to be shown wrong though!

Hi pazzar and tastrax,
I was camped at junction of Mackays Track / 7 Mile Creek junction one time and met a guy who was doing this.
He told me there was some sort of route, track, pad, what ever you want to call it. :D
Never saw him again so don't know how it went. :?
That's why I asking here!
(pazzar, I think I met you at Junction Creek at couple of years ago, seem to remember you crossed a flooded 2 Mile Creek???)
(Yes, tastrax, was considering it as an alternative to slippy sliddy mud bath on McKays track if it is possible)

Yep that was me - we were a pretty exhausted bunch when we ran into you. We made it home by hitch hiking eventually, fairly late on the following day. I'd be interested to see if my rope has been washed away on Seven Mile.

If you find any info on the said route I'd like to know - would be a nice change for when I decide to tackle Mt Shaula!

pazzar,
I crossed 7 Mile Creek about 2 years ago and rope was still there :D
(I remembered your story)
Think it was about 3 years ago when I saw you.
Will let you know how the river goes, if I take it on!
(Still looking for info on it!)

Do you have a raft?, there is a route vaguely described in the Paddle Tas resource- down to the river below where its likely to be dry (it's on my list for another life-time). Pretty steep and scrubby otherwise i'd imagine?

The mud bath is ok as long as it isn't snow melt - otherwise the creeks are bitterly cold!

I only assume along the river will be scrubby, going on the scrub bands along the creeks?
I'd agree, would have to be much slower even than the mud wollows surely? Just fall into the first one, then you can just have fun with the rest : )

Not much of a mud bath at the moment Melinda.

Just back from WA's A to K earlier this week and the track is as dry as I have ever seen it. Not quite a gaiter free zone just before Junction Creek but from there to 7 Mile Creek you could put the gaiters in the backpack
