An overnight walk with a fire

Tue 05 Aug, 2014 11:46 am

I need some suggestions of somewhere we can do an overnight walk and have a little fire at the camp site? So obviously our NP's are out but any other suggestions?

North of the state would be ideal but I'm open to other areas.

Thanks in advance. Ive searched the site but can't find anything.

Thanks for the replies, I probably should take more notice of the maps. Some areas I thought were all world heritage or NP are in fact crown land and forestry or at least close to it.

I love the bush tv, although I can and do live without it, I'm trying to make overnighters appeal to some others ;)

I know what you mean, I always get asked by people who want to come for there first walk, "can we have a fire?"
So you end up thinking of great places to walk where they can enjoy a fire.

Im finding myself wanting to do walks and I have no one willing to come along! Its not that I don't have friends LOL but they just are not into hiking or if they are they are only keen on shorter flat day walks.

So the fire thing may encourage them out for some overnighters. Id join a club of some sort but I'm not the fittest person around and I'm probably slow compared to most experienced walkers so I don't know if id be tolerated in club full of regulars so I need to keep working on my friends to get out there more ;)

Most clubs have walks at different pace and fitness levels so cater for most people.
On the fire front, last time I went to Ben Lomond, we camped at the area just down from Carr Villa. Very sheltered and had fireplaces at each site. Toilets as well so luxury camping.

Is there firewood?

I thought the Tasman NP was FSOA, except for the camping area at Fortescue Bay?

Blackwood Camp on the Leven, along the Penguin/Cradle trail is an option for a walk in, overnight camp, and back out from Gunns Plains. The Leven River valley is not a NP.

G'day all, Anyone got any suggestions for the the south of the state? I'm looking for good over-nighters or multi day walks in state forest - My wife's new to this bushwalking malarkey and I'm trying to ease her in with some wine and marsh mellows around the campfire!
