So I went and had a look at this hut lately. The hut is in pretty good condition and apart from a bit of mould and and a overly healthy population of spiders I would say it is a real sanctuary. It certainly took a bit to find. I spent a fair bit of time following wombat tracks around thinking they were human pads before I looked in the right area and found it.
So my question to the brains trust is; If this is McCoys Hut #1 where is Basil Steers Hut #1?
Feel free to PM me so we can keep the off track stuff off track.

McCoys hut has only the foundations remaining and it is only a few metres from Basil Steers .

Its all a bit confusing, lots of people say different things.
Cheers for the map Doogs. I found it after a bit of hunting on thelist last night, should have seen it before.
Chapman calls the one I visited McCoys #1 hut but maybe he is wrong?
I think McCoys #2 hut is the ruins near the Lees Paddocks/Arm River track intersection?
So next one might have to be Basil Steers #1.
I like these huts and the fact that they are little hard to find makes it all the more fun. The one in the picture I think was made deliberately hard to find by the builder. I read somewhere that this was done due to fair bit of out of season trapping that went on and not really wanting to easily found.

Hey doogs the Hut on this Map is in the February Plains and no where near the one near the one near Wurragarra creek that the op is asking about.

I think he was answering my question about the location of Basil Steer's #1 hut

With a degree of sarcasm rather than helpfulness I suspect , being that the location was in no way helpful to you in this instance.

Yeah, I wouldn't disagree with your sentiment

I might add that the Hut he highlighted is not an open slather situation ,secluded and not far from one of Basils other Hut in
a close by location which is also private but unlocked.(both palatial btw)

Corvus. There is nothing wrong with a bit of sarcasm especially when the question has been answered

The latest release of TASmaps have a few previously 'secret' huts marked on them. At the bottom end of February Plains Smurf Hut is marked as an unnamed hut. I had planned to do an overnight trip this winter linking up the 2 huts mentioned but unfortunately haven't been able to find the time ..yet!!

Go for it doogs, obviously the hut photo was taken showing it's best attributes which was highlighted in writing and all hush hush pm me. Nothing wrong with that but if your going to take the *&^%$#! out of us you can't really be indignant when it's returned imho

Thanks for the entertainment guys

doogs,
The OP asked about the miss named McCoys Hut #1 and you came back with a wrong location the Hut you showed was built by Basil some time b4 1970 as it is on my Maps from then, there is however a hut also shown on the 1970 Mersey Map which I think may have been McCoys as it is not on the 1991 Mersey Map but on recent Maps it is shown very close to the original McCoys which as I previously mentioned is only a "foundation" .
Good luck with your proposed trip however I personally would allow some extra time .
