Accessing the Huon Track from Riveaux Road

Wed 12 Nov, 2014 10:13 am

I am planning a trip early next year and someone mentioned the possibility of accessing the Huon Track from further along Riveaux Road.
Please pm me if you have some info on this.
Thanks
Brian

Yes, there is a route, ? vehicular in the past. From memory it's marked in Chapman's book.

Use it for interest's sake; I don't think it would save much time.

The roads in this area are poorly marked on the maps but show up well in the sat pics. Riveaux Road will get you closer but will require unlocking gates and a small scrub crunch to get from the road to the Huon track.

It would be simpler and just as quick to use the regular trail head.

toggle the scanned maps and aerial pics in the list after searching for Riveaux Road to see.

There is a new track off Riveaux road, it cuts a bit of distance off but without the key as stated might not be worthwhile. I'll see if I can find my GPS screen shot and PM it to you Brian.

Parks & Wildlife Service Rangers worked on vegetation and windfall clearances on the Huon Track on Monday this week. Heaps quicker to skip out the Huon Track than the route from Riveaux.

How about a few tricky spots (specially for those, who are short and go solo) on Southern Ranges Circuit and Western Arthur! Writing this without looking at maps and tracknotes, I can't let you know exactly where these spots are, and hope that these will be looked into.

Happy New Year to you, Benny Storer and all other P&WL Service Rangers.
