Huntsmans Creek Waterfall

Sun 28 Dec, 2014 4:19 pm

Gday all.. Anyone able to help me with a location, or any info at all on "Huntsmans Creek Falls"? Somewhere on the creek, or very near to it, over in the NE, about 11k NNW of St Marys.
I found a reference to them in a 2007 document called Linking_Landscapes_Reserves_NE Tas_summary 2007.doc.
So I know they are real.
A guess at their location might be 41°29'21.96"S 148° 6'35.49"E, where the creek turns in a tight (90deg) bend, from north, to west.
Nothing shown on the 1:25000 Topo Map at that location, or indeed anywhere along the creek.
However, google earth displays a telltale splash of white at the bend.
A mystery. I love 'em.
Cheers...Steve.

Tasmanian place names are now available online at

https://www.placenames.tas.gov.au/#p1

and that waterfall doesn't appear to be listed and it also doesnt appear on the wiki listing either

http://bushwalk.com/wiki/index.php?titl ... Waterfalls

I will do a search and see what else I can find out. Do you have a link to that document?

Apols tastrax.. I've got the document file, but have lost the link. Cant get it back no matter how hard I search! It is by Environment Tasmania Inc. North East Bioregional Network. The title is "Linking Landscapes - New reserves for North East Tasmania - September 2007. The reference to Huntsmans Creek Waterfall is on page 4. I cannot attach it. This system wont allow me to attach a .doc file.
Here's a clip:

"Other Values
Numerous sites listed on Tasmanian Geoconservation database e.g. St Patricks Head Basaltic Soils, Mt Elephant Karst, Huntsmans Creek Waterfall, Durham Creek Meander Cave with Constructional Karst, Upper Durham Creek Karst System, St Marys Porphyrite and Catos Creek Dyke, Mt Nicholas and Blackboy Plains High Plateau Marshes, Huntsmans-Scales Creeks Triassic Basalt, Mt Nicholas High Plateau Marshes, Mt Nicholas Dolerite Residual Peak, North and South Sister Dolerite Periglacial System, Mt Nicholas Dolerite Periglacial System, North-east Tasmania Dolerite Residual Peaks".

Cheers.. Steve.

Thanks Phil.. It looks like it's just around the corner and up the road from Weber Falls. But on the other creek.
I'm not brilliant at List searches, so how do I know exactly where it is? Is it under the orange circle? That's what came up in the middle of the window when I clicked your link.

Yep - that's the one. click on the circle and a few basic details will come up in another window. I reckon it will be close to the middle of the circle. You can also make the circle slightly transparent by clicking on the layers tab on the RHS, then click on Geoconservation Sites and then you can make it say 50% transparent. You can also change the basemap to State Aerial Photography to get an idea of the veg cover. In this case the Aerial photos are better than google.
