Hi,
We have never been to Tasmania and we are wondering what the weather is like to to hiking in April/May.
Also looking for suggestions to do 1-2 day hikes
Thanks,
Haki

Coastal areas can still be quite stable. Highland areas can give you anything so be prepared for anything.
Lots of 1 to 2 day hike options in the Mersey Forest/Walls of Jerusalem area.
Freycinate on the coast is a nice area.

Hi well the weather last year was still warmish at that time last year. As for areas to walk we have enjoyed The Upper Mersy Valley there is several walks in that area Lees paddock ,Walls of Jerusalem , several waterfalls , just a nice quite part of Tasmania to see. Cheers Happy walking.

In late April my best suggestion, especially since you haven't been to Tassie before would definitely be Cradle Mtn. The main reason is the awesome sight of the Fagus turning yellow, orange, red, etc. and there's plenty of it. It's also much less crowded then than in summer. As for the weather I can't guarantee anything but the last 2 times I've been the at that time I've had 5 days of no rain or wind. You could do day walks over Hansons Peak up to Artists Pool then across the Face Track and up to the summit or down via Lake Wilks or go around Crater Lake both of which are surrounded by masses of Fagus. An overnight trip could be done staying at Waterfall Valley or Scott Kilvert Hut going up one side of Cradle and back the other. It is definitely the best time to be there.

I forgot to mention this one. Probably the most spectacular day walk in Tassie would be Mt Murchison and especially at Fagus time. It's absolutely stunning, depending on the weather and not too far away from Cradle.
