The South Coast in October

Postby nothingwmn » Tue 14 Apr, 2009 4:44 pm

Hi all,
I am planning to do The South Coast the second week of October this year & am wondering if anyone has done the walk at that time of year? I have attempted it twice previously from Cockle Creek, once in early Jan & once in early Feb and on both occasions, we decided to turn back due to many days of heavy rain. This time, we will start at Melaleuca & allow nine days total in case we have to wait out the weather again. We are a party of 4 experienced walkers... does anyone have any thoughts or advice for us? I am well aware of how fickle the weather is at all times & am really hoping we get lucky this attempt, but are we being overly optimistic for that time of the year?

Well you might get lucky in October but its probably the least likely month I would suggest for the Southcoast. Maatsuyker is off the coast but this shows that its a pretty windy and wet month

There was another post somewhere on this site with photos of how quickly the creeks rose after heavy rain (Louisa creek from memory) and that was in summer.

Maybe a simple piece of advice, but if you've got a choice of camping on either side of the river, camp on the side you're going to continue on the next day.
