Hobhouse

Postby naturelover » Fri 12 Jun, 2015 10:08 am

Hi. I'm planning to climb Hobhouse on Sunday. If anyone has any tips about once you're up on the top of the ridge (is it better to keep those rocky cliffs to the right or the left, or to go over them and up the spine???) I'd be grateful. Last (and only) attempt the weather closed in and we could only see the summit as a blur in the fog. Timed out, we retreated, but where we were was exceptionally scrubby, so I am hoping for a quicker trek along the tops this time. I've been told there's a bit of a pad (which we didn't see), but I don't know which side of the cliffs it is. Any help appreciated. Don't want to have to go back a third time, and with the days being short, we won't have time for stuffing around.

Having done this one with SBS, we took an alternatively approach down the forestry roads.
The quickest way would be ride a bike to the end of the road. There is only scrub on the first lower section then its pretty easy going.
Its quite open once your up there and you basically make a bee line to the top, no cliffs, no ridge lines.
No messing around with getting access across the Dam.
Done in under 4hrs I think. Maybe that's an exaggeration.. but it was a lot quicker than expected.
