Hi folks,
have just got back from a walk into Pelverata Falls, and was keen to get up to Slippery Falls and perhaps follow the ridge along to the top of Pelverata Falls and finish a circuit coming out the way I went in.
Does anybody know a track leading in? I couldn't find any despite following several 'false' tracks. It was a pity the falls looked great, heaps of water, see pic and would be a good way to get away from the hordes that descended on the place today must have been 20 cars in the carpark on my return. Lucky I started early, had the place to myself

Good shot! Can't blame folk for wanting to head to a waterfall at the moment. With all the rain we are having there should be good water over most falls.

Which way did you take to Pelverata Falls?

I have added a link in the Wiki back to this photo, and I also noted that Slippery Falls weren't on the list, so I added it in too.

Nice photo. I've considered accessing the top of Slippery Falls and Pelverata Falls from Van Morey Rd at Margate. There's a 4x4 track that goes most of the way there. I haven't walked all the way along it as I was up that way to climb Grey Mountain so I can't comment on the condition of the track the whole way but the section I saw was in good condition and easy to follow. It's a bit of a maze of 4x4 tracks through the Snug Tiers though so it is definitely worth taking a map.

Thanks for feedback, I just accessed the falls from below via the standard track, nice walk but I was drawn up and couldn't find a track up I was comfortable with, and with all the water, a creek crossing was a bit dicey Will have a look at a few maps and see what I can work out. Whenever I go to a new spot I get the itch to have a look from all angles

I've been in by 4WD from the top of Van Morey Rd a few times, although the last was probably a couple of years ago. You definitely need a "proper" 4WD to get all the way in, or you could walk but I can't remember how far. It is lovely at the top of the falls, and there's a pad around to Slippery Falls.

will try and get up there this weekend. Own a L/Cruiser but it runs on gas and the tank reduces my clearance, so I shall proceed with caution

Hi DA,
everybody I know and love kept me tied to the home/office on the weekend, but have a contingency plan this weekend
Will report Mon/Tuesday. Will be heading to the Far South for Winter Solstice, Sat/Sun nights look promising for Southern Aurora. Fingers crossed.

We'll be in Hobart for the weekend, is it better to go further south to see the Aurora?

get away from lights and look south and yes cross your fingers! i want to see one soooo badly.

I'm hedging my bets and going as far sth as I can.
I've never seen one, so I can't give any real advice, but I think dee_legg has the right idea(plus clear skies, obviously)

Here's the update, got into Snug Tiers no worries, only to realise I left my lovely map on the bedside table
Couldn't be bothered driving back to Hobart, so abandoned the trip
Decided I will do Adamson's Falls on way to campsite at Cockle Creek Got a flat tyre 500m short of start of walk
After changing Landcruiser's tyre with the worst #@%$#* jack ever invented, got paranoid I would come back to car with a 2nd puncture and a lot more trouble, abandoned plan B
Tyre fixed in Dover(2hrs)

Drove to Southport, checked up on a friend, went for a walk on the beach, it was nice

Too cloudy for Aurora, though I thought I saw some flashes

Walked to Sth Cape Rivulet on Sunday, excellent day, walked 24km in 6.5 hrs. Legs sore, soul cleansed
Only surfers on the track, funny they walk all that way in, and then just sit on the shore looking at the waves.
That's what I do as well, but I'll take a picnic rather than carry a board
A few nasty landslides on the foreshore under Coal Bluff, would be very unstable if raining.

Night 2 - beautiful clear night, no Aurora, maybe not cold enough.

Some failures and some success, will try another assault on Pelverata soon. Maybe after the next good dump of rain .
