2-4 day walk with public transport access

Postby TwoDuck » Wed 15 Jun, 2016 10:43 am

Hi everyone
We are coming from Queensland and planning to walk the OLT from 18 Sept.
We'll have our 11yo and as Qlders not so used to snow....so I'm after suggestions for an alternative 2-4 day walk that we could use as an alternative if the Cradle Mtn weather is foul. Ideally somewhere easily accessible by public transport as we won't have a car (but could hire if really needed), and from Launceston where we arrive.
I will do my own research but wondered whether anyone had a personal favourite? Cheers!

Freycinet Peninsula and Maria island have public transport options from Hobart and are good 2-4 day walks, but i'm not sure about accessing them via public transport from Launceston...

Frenchmans Cap fits the bill.

I'd have to agree that in poor weather the East coast is your best option. Frenchmans Cap is a big mountain and not a place you would want to be in poor weather. Maria is great for family trips, set up a base camp and go off on day and half day adventures.
Do you want to build a snowman?

Sept on the OLT chances are you will get foul weather.2-4 day walks with public transport access. RNP coastal track chances of good weather good. Access from train stations and ferry very good. Extremely good chance of seeing whales going back home.
