Lake Ada to Hut 5 extension

Postby jdh573 » Tue 13 Sep, 2016 2:06 pm

We were planning to walk this track then out through Walls of Jerusalem. Well thats not going to happen now that the road is closed. Is there any way to extend this walk, say by returning down Pine River, to turn the walk into a loop?

Maybe out via Ritter's track and Higgs track to Meander? That will add 2-3 days I understand, but others here would know better than me about times.

Hi John,

I haven't actually done the loop around Great Pine Tier yet, but had intended to based on what I'd heard. I'm afraid I can't remember where i got all the info from, but most of it was probably from this website somewhere. I'm guessing it might be popular this year.

I'm slightly confused, though - i've probably missed something. Is it the Hut no 5 near Lk Antimony? if so, I would have thought you'd have continued to the Walls up Bernes Valley (Pine River) rather than back tracking to the Powena Ck route via Lk Fanny, in order to 'return down Pine River'.

If you have enough time, from Talleh Lagoon you can head up Quail Gully to Butters then along Richea Ridge to the Daisy Lakes and into the Walls from there. Then down to Fanny via either the Great Pine Tier or Bernes Valley. Either follow Powena Creek down to Antimony (cross before the scrub gets too awkward) or follow the track from Fanny down past Talleh and do Antimony as a sidetrip. Lot of options.

A few years back we did a three day circuit from Ada having nights at Lake Fanny and Lake Solveig. We passed through Dixon's Kingdom on the middle day, so you could easily add a night around there. The walking from Lake Fanny to Mt Jerusalem had occasional light scrub but was pretty good going.

I plan to walk to the walls in via Lake Ada & Bernes Valley and out from Dixons Kingdom and Lake Fanny in November.
Have read various posts and am unsure of the out route, coming down either via the eastern or western sides of Lake Fanny. Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Great Pine Tier (western side of Fanny) is relatively easy going, and also has some great campsites. Fantastic country.
You just head off from the Jerusalem track, a little way along from Jaffa Gate, pick your line through the scrub (which is mostly pretty light) and make sure you don't follow the first southerly ridge too far down. Great views, some beautiful sections of native pines, lovely easy walking.
