There is, I am informed, on Mt Victoria, an unusual form of myrtle i.e. Nothofagus cunninghamii. It's leaves are quite glaucous, or blue-green. Has anyone discovered this whilst on the mountain? Being somewhat of a Nothofagus tragic, I am keen to get it growing in my collection. Cheers.

A Nothfagus tragic eh! Twenty + years ago AFH obtained a heap of seed from Chile. There should be some mixed forest up around Talbot's Lagoon area.

Have all Chilean species in the garden. That's very interesting info. though. Same goes for Raminea in the south. FT did a big planting there years ago.

It may even be the same seed. We tended to share things like that and I know we got quite a bit of seed. I planted a small collection in Dads garden. Some wonderful autumn colours amongst them.

A New Hybrid Nothofagus
Gillanders, K.
PLANTSMAN -LONDON-
2008, VOL 7; PART 1, pages 55-57
This paper describes an interesting hybrid (Nothofagus x eugenananus hybr. nov.) that has appeared in cultivation in Tasmania. It is between Nothofagus alessandri, a deciduous Chilean endemic, and an evergreen species in the Fusca pollen group, almost certainly N. fusca.

Yep, got that one too! A stunning plant. Mine's about 3.5 metres now and partly deciduous.
