Hi guys
Is there a track between ironstone hut and lake halkyard ?
Done this twice once we just boulder hopped which is fine but it was dry not really a good idea in the wet
The other we cut across to the west just below the peak.
No track as such fairly hard going.
We did notice a trail from the toilet towards the east of the peak does this lead all the way through ?

Ive spent quite a bit of time in this area and there are no real tracks from the hut to Lake Halkyad than I know of. Sure you will come across some pads that may or may not lead to the Lake but its not a difficult area to navigate.
For the times that I dont want to go up to the top of forty lakes peak then I generally skirt around it, yes there is a little bit of rock hopping if you take the most direct route but its nothing terrible.
Good luck and have fun, its a nice open area.

Couple of weekends ago we cut across from the blue peaks track to the explorer track roughly from the northern end of middle lake past Lake Johnny but we should have probably cut across from the southern end of middle to make it easier. It's fairly open country so from Halkyard it would be a cinch

The cairned route from the toilet near Ironstone Hut leads up to the top of Forty Lakes Peak. I think it ends there and doesn't lead on to the lake.
