Hi everyone,

I would like to hike to the lake Rhona. Do you have any idea if is it still possible to cross the river using the big tree or is it gone with the flood that occurred in june?

Hello, I'm unsure if the big tree is still there. However if it hasn't been raining for a while before you go then you shouldn't find it too difficult to cross on other branches or trees or to wade across. It's a beautiful place, enjoy!

Thanks devoswitch. unfortunately it has been raining all day long. by any if you know any overnight hiking not too difficult around this area or cradle mountain...

Yeah if you're planning on going to Rhona now I'd say the river will be impassable for a while.
Any good overnight hikes between SW Tas and Cradle Mountain... There's heaps!!! Do a bit of research and find one that suits you. It all depends on what you call difficult and what you would like to see along the way, basically.

I did a bit of research but as non local and because it is my first time in TAS I can tell you it is not easy to find one. first I wanted to do the wall of Jerusalem but it is closed and now the lake rhona... I am looking for a 30 km return max with an elevation around 1000m. I am going to cradle in 30 minutes . thanks again and have a good day

Frenchmans would fit the bill?

Frenchman's is a great option. Mt Anne (either the circuit or an in and out trip to Shelf Camp) would also be worth considering. Another option would be Mt Rufus via Shadow Lake and Little Hugel or a trip into Pine Valley and side trips to the Labyrinth and the Acropolis.

For future reference I reckon the hydro River level monitoring provides a pretty good indicator of whether getting into Lake Rhona is possible.

I know the florentine is in a different catchment but you're guaranteed if its massively up that the Gordon will be heading that way too.
Particularly since it shows something like 38mm of rain in the last few days.

We finally went to Mt Rufus and it was a good recommandation, the view up there is great. However The night was tough as we slept approximatively 200 m down the summit and it was crazy windy with a lot of rain, 2 hours of sleep for me . Fortunately we have a good tent and experience
Othewise we tried to go to the gingerbread Hut but we had to gave up because of the track that is not really maintained and makes the access dangerous.

I spotted many other possibilities of hiking for our next trip to Tasmania, there are so many as you said and I know where they are located now.
