Hi everyone,

I'm new to fagus, and been looking out for the annual Fagus Watch thread. Hope it's ok to make my own

We're heading up to stay in the Mt Field area today until Friday morning, probably walking most days on the mountain, so hope to see some and report back.

If anyone has tips for which walks to do, or combine together, let me know

Nice Bruce, I've been keeping an eye out for reports also.

Tarn shelf is the main spot down there, although there a pretty decent patch around Fenton.

I'm heading to Murchison tomorrow to see how things are looking - I don't think a lot has turned so far however.

I was up at Murchison today, and there was quite a bit of fagus, but not all of it had turned yellow.

I was up in Pine Valley over Easter. Lower altitudes around the valley had minimal speckled yellow leaves. Up on the plateau below Acropolis and The Labyrinth there was quite a bit of action. Patches of trees in full yellow and some nice occasional oranges and reds. Overall still too early though.

Didn't go to Murchison in the end - instead did a circuit up at Cradle - Hounslow Heath, Riggs Pass and Crater Lake area. The Heath was looking pretty good in places, still early at Crater Lake. Generally the most exposed plants are turning now.

Best example of reds we came across on the Acropolis plateau.

Starting to turn a little yellow on the Tarn Shelf down to Lake Newdegate on Wednesday 19th. I actually saw some more yellow at the Lake Fenton carpark, but lovely day out

hmmm, nice! snowy blast predicted for this week should set it off.

Avoided the Mt Field crowds yesterday and instead headed up to a misty Lake Skinner. Nice walk with a few good patches of Fagus starting to look pretty good.

East end, it may improve.



West end, I think it is at its best for this year.

Generally at its best for this year with some dropping leaves and others still green.

Sunday on Murcho. A peppering of green, gold, brown and gone! Very little red. A made a point of seeking out a shrub that I'd photographed entirely red five years ago. It was entirely gold.
