We are thinking about spending some time with our kids at the Walls of Jerusalem in late December this year. My husband and I went there at a similar time many moons ago, perhaps 15 years ago, and I remember the mosquitoes were absolutely maddening. Have other people had the same experience in December/January at the Walls or did we happen to go during a bit of a plague?

I took a nephew to the Walls between Christmas and New Year a few years ago. I don't remember any mozzies. Snow was more of an issue. Not really, just enough to be fun, and our sleeping bags were warm enough to cope with the breezy tent in freezing conditions. I don't remember mozzies being an issue on any trip there, but then my memory isn't famously good. But I definitely remember them and leeches at Frog Flats...

I cannot recall any biting insects. The weather is more of an issue, and I've had everything, solid rain to snow to what passes for a Tassie heatwave. I wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, scrub gloves and a broad brim hat with a big flap at the back. This keeps off most sun and insects.

I've been into and around the Walls more times than I can count, and I cannot remember ever having a problem with mozzies there. I'm sure they were there, but never in huge swarms. They are probably more likely to hang around some of the smaller bodies of water, but the main campsites are away from them anyway.

You may have just got unlucky when you last visited!

Don't worry, the elephants were all carried off by the march flies - nobody will find them.

Yeah they're not too bad in the Walls. Frenchmans Cap in summer though....

This is vague! Do you mean mossies, elephants, march flies or something else?

Trivia. Elephants don't need sat nav, they make ... trunk calls. (Anyone under 55 will not know what I mean. Tough.)

I was there in April last year before the road washed out. camping at Dixon's Kingdom, I didn't have any issues with mozzies. Just watch the possums.

March flies can be be a annoying up there in summer.

I've not had too much trouble with the elephants so far. I guess some people attract them more than others. Maybe it's their blood type, or diet... who knows.
