Huon/YoYo Track condition

Postby bumpingbill » Tue 06 Feb, 2018 8:01 am

In early, early stages of planning a trip into the Arthurs, and I'm wondering if anyone has walked the Huon/YoYo track lately?

What's the current condition? Is it often cleared by Parks? How far could a fit walker get in one day?

How long is it taking, on average, to reach the Cracroft Plains?

Thanks all!

I was out there a few weeks ago but only as far as blake,s opening. The track up to there is in good condition with not too much in the way of downed trees or epic mud. Lots of jack jumper nests in the first km. Other than that theres a bit of a landslide above the riveaux rapids that is easily negotiated.

Came out the Huon from Lk Rosanne twelve days ago. A fair amount of downed trees or limbs and plenty of climbing over, around, ducking under, and occasionally crawling. The short bit between the boardwalk east of Cracroft Crossing and the Huon track proper took me about 40 min to navigate due to downed trees, brush, and a poor sense of direction. The river crossing is at a different place than on the map.

The "yo-yo" aspect of the Huon didn't bother me, despite being tired from two weeks of walking. But the downed wood got kind of old after a while.

It was mainly an irritation and a fit walker could make it to Cracroft in a day

The Huon is sort of a dull track with little to see. A means to an end though.

Good luck.
