Western Arthurs Solo??

I'm thinking about taking a study break trip next weekend for 3 or 4 nights, considering going to Lake Oberon/Mt Orion area for a few nights. Would you recommend going here as a solo walker, or better to leave it and go with a group? I have experience in climbing etc, which i know may be required in parts of the Western Arthurs. Let me know what you think.

I'd say go with another person.. but any answer you get here is likely to tell you more about the posters own level of acceptable risk. It depends on what risks youare happy to take. e.g, how prepared you are if you have a fall, PLB etc.

In saying that, I think the track really only starts getting harder/more technical as you descend into Lake Oberon. (Relative to say the OT or SCT that is) So if that's as far as you are going, I guess you could ask yourself if you would be happy doing other remote tracks solo.

Thanks for the post, I think I'll just keep an eye on the forecasts to determine whether I go. I plan to go from Scotts Peak and then through to Lake Oberon, and then return. I will continue to look for another person to walk with, but at such short notice it may be hard. I have completed harder walks than OT with ease, so I do look forward to the challenge. I am reasonably fit as well. South Coast is in the plans for later in the summer!

Somehow I suspect King George IV might be a walking pal of pazzar, and it sounds like you have a story to tell from last Sunday, could I be right?

I think this may be a reference to the Burnie 10 - and I have a vague idea who is submitting this folly. I would like to see him walk for days with a pack on his back!
