Sail to Melalueca

G'day Guys.
Looking at doing the South Coast track with my Pommy mate as her last hoorah before she heads for NZ.
So I've realised that you need to get to Melaleuca, and the most common method is by charter flight. But I'm wondering if anyone has done it another way? Has anyone sailed in? Is there a company that sails there regularly/ever?
Is there anyone that you can recommend I talk to?
Cheers
Love Brendo

I've sailed around in a yacht, but that was with a relative so I know nothing about what charters etc. are available. There was a large charter boat in there when we were there. I'm not sure who ran it but I'm pretty sure it was more of a luxury several day outing with all the bells and whistles for the very well to do, rather than a bushwalker barge
I have also heard of people (especially kayakers) hitching a ride with fishermen in the area.
The flight is fantastic, albeit not cheap!

If you check with someone at the Kettering Marina - just ask around, you will find someone who can put you onto one of the fishermen based there. I know of one guy who has taken people down in the past. Let me know if you want a name and number.

Numbers and contact details would be much appreciated. I'm currently living in NSW so just popping down to the marina might be a bit tricky (and expensive). I'm also considering extending the trip out to at least a month, so I might come down a bit early to scout out a lift.

Thanks for the PM Robbo.
Another quick question. What is a best method to get from the end of the trail back to Hobart. How far down does public transport travel? I only know a few people who live in Tassie so getting a pick-up might be tricky as most of them live near Smithton (and 2 on Three Hummock Island).
Cheers

There is transport from Cockle Creek I believe. There is a thread on this somewhere on the list...?

You can get a taxi from Cockle Creek but you may need a phone card for the phone there. We got the taxi all the way to hobart, can't remember the company anymore but they had fliers up at the end point.
I think Tassielink has a connection also but cannot remember the details.
Evans Coaches would be the other one to try. Ring them because they don't respond to queries on their website.

For transport to Cockle Creek try Evans Coaches. I chartered them recently to get to Farmhouse Creek (for a solo hike to Federation Peak) and found the service excellent.
