I was thinking about many of the unnamed geographical features scattered throughout Tasmania and wondering how much success I would have with making a submission. Incidentally, I notice that a 2019 edition of the Place Name Guidelines has just been released, which indicates a preference for Aboriginal names.

I personally wouldn't have any qualms with the area circled in red being officially named the Wylly Plateau. After all, many of us already refer to it as that (thanks to Chapman's books), plus it does fit the geographical definition of a 'plateau', it is in close proximity to Mt Wylly (hence the use of the same name), and it's one of the more popular places to camp on the Southern Ranges, so would seem logical to give it a name.

That's just one idea though. I'm curious to see what geographical features everyone else thinks should be given a name of sort.

The ridge on the western side of Anne Gorge is a fascinating bit of ground, and long enough to make a really good overnight walk with the possibility of looping back down to the Scotts Peak Rd. (The scrub will be less of a problem now it's been thoroughly burnt.)
I call it Ripple Rock Ridge as it has some of the best examples of ripple rock I've seen, but I would love it to have an appropriate palawa kani name.

I've always felt the southern most peak of the Ossa Massif should have a name. It's clearly articulated from the main Ossa summit, and is a very distinctive presence above the Overland Track through Pinestone Valley, and from the Cathedral Plateau and the Du Cane Range.

No real ideas on a name. 'Ellis' Bluff' perhaps, after the Ellis brothers (Ossie, Mort and Alec). A palawa kani name would be good (and/or a dual name), and it's also past time there were more names celebrating the significant women of the Mersey/Forth high country.

I agree. Every time I see it I say something about it needing a name.

I followed 'Branigan Falls' through the database and have, a couple of times, tried to follow it to an explanation that nobody to date has been able to give? but i'm sure one exists. It seems to have popped up and there's now some frowning at the use of the track,maybe there's cause to rescind some names (not to deny Branigan, but who were they?)

Ah so possibly if nominated locally and supported by the old FOC / we'll assume he's the same one who wrote the Fredrick Smithies book? (thanks, I don't recall seeing any such detail)

In 2000 it would have been Geoff Coles as Regional Manager - you probably have a contact for him so he may have more detail.

Have met Geoff and do know a few from that era. I'll keep in mind to check. It's a particularly curious one, 'for management purposes'. They'll surely need some steps built.

On topic, personally i like the indigenous concept, names to describe some significance of places (rater than celebrate historical figures).
