Hi guys,
I'm only new here, so forgive me if this post isn't in the appropriate spot (can someone please move it?). Anyway, I'm a pretty keen bushwalker, among other things (peak bagging in particular) and I've found the list of 'high' and 'not so high' places on the wiki very handy at times. When I'm not out walking, I'm studying at UTAS (surveying & spatial science), so I have a big interest in using satellite imagery/GPS etc. Today I decided to take all the information on the two wiki pages and transform it into a Google Earth file (for use on a computer or transfer to a GPS) - it contains all the 'high' and 'not so high' places from across Tasmania (effectively all the mountains in Tasmania). It includes all the information that's on the wiki's as well (TASMAP names/numbers, altitudes and regions) - this can be accessed by clicking on the mountain name. It's also been crossreferenced with the Peak Bagging Tasmania points list and categorised accordingly (first by region, then by point rating). The icons are colour-coded to match the peak-bagging rating (see below). It's been designed so that you can turn specific regions 'on' and 'off', rather than being overwhelmed with 1000+ mountain names.
Yellow Icon = Unrated (No Peak Baggers Rating)
Purple Icon = 1 Point
Lime Green Icon = 2 Points
Aqua Icon = 3 Points
Red Icon = 4 Points
Olive Icon = 5 Points
Purple Icon = 6 Points
White Icon = 7 Points
Silver Icon = 8 Points
Orange Icon = 9 Points
Blue Icon = 10 Points
The file is attached. Simply open it in Google Earth and copy it to your 'My Places' folder. Hopefully it might be useful for some of you in planning your next walking trip(s) or putting in your GPS as a reference. Feel free to upload it to either of the wiki pages as well, if anyone thinks it could be of some use in the future.
NOTE: I can't vouch for the accuracy of the provided coordinates - they are merely taken from the Bushwalking Tasmania wiki. I accept no responsibility for the quality/accuracy of this data - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Cheers,
Jack
