I'm confused re the high point of Great Pine Tier on the HWC Peak Baggers' list. Unless my brain is less functional than I think, the high point on the PBs' list is roughly north of a spot between Lk Solveig and Lake Sonja, at 1310 m elevation. But I would have thought the high point is a couple of kms east of Mt Moriah, at >1330 m. That high point looks like it should still be a part of GPTier. Can anyone cast light on this? Thanks.

You're right about where the PBL high point is. I think the more westerly spot is considered to be part of Jerusalem rather than the tier.

Thanks for that, nnw. I wondered about that, but couldn't make it part of Mt Jerusalem, given the southern-ish line of the Tier. Maybe it's a bit of poetic licence. Sounds like it's a lovely area to explore anyway.

'tis. Lots of camping options along there too.

So I still haven't got out there, and am still confused. On the HWC list, the high point is at 1310m. However, there are 2 points that are above the 1320 m contour. Does anybody know which is actually higher? Ta.

The HWC list appears to refer to the western of the 2 points you have marked. Looks like they got the height wrong or the height has been updated since they did the list. It would be prudent to visit both, however, if you want to claim it, otherwise it would be like Mt Victoria. Of course having to go back a second time to an area like that is no hardship.

Thanks for checking it out, Last. I checked with my old map, and the grid reference on the HWC list most closely matches the spot height of 1302m. It doesn't match anything with the newer data on LISTmap. I wondered if anyone has actually checked out both potential high points with a GPS. Not that they're necessarily accurate enough for that sort of elevation difference.
And of course, you're right. Lovely area to explore from the little bit I've seen. We did climb every bump on Victoria just to be sure...

According to my GPS, the more easterly point is the higher, with a roughly 3m advantage over its neighbour - 1334 compared to 1331. They're only about 600m apart, maybe ten minutes of leisurely dodge and weave, so atmospheric conditions were the same for both.
Of course, the only way to be sure is to traverse the whole ridge, from Jerusalem to Lake Fanny or beyond. It's fun, easy and good walking for the most part.

Thanks, nnw.
