G'day all - I've been on many walks in the WoJ, but have never been to either Lake Toorah or Lake Nugara in the Chinamans Plains area.

Any reports? Is access from the Adelaide/Meston track reasonable? Any good pencil pine stands? Any good campsites? I've seen robl's recent pic. in the "Where Am I?", but other photos or reports welcome,

I posted a little bit of information regarding access to Chinamans Plains from the Northern end of Lake Meston here. It's not much, but it might help.

Walked from Bernes Valley to Torah in January this year and stayed the night on the Eastern end of the lake. Woke up in the morning with a couple of cms of snow on the tent! then made our way to the northern end of Meston. Open walking most of the way but gets a bit scrubby as you head down to Meston - you can find easier walking if you stick to the ridges rather than the gullies. Its an easy area to walk in. Buy the 1:25,000 maps - and try and stay in the white areas - which are open. It is possible, with a careful route, to almost link up the white areas. Lots of campsites - all over the place - many are sheltered and very delightful.

I have often walked in via the east end of Lake Ball, cross the outlet stream, walk back west a 100m or so - and pick up the start of a nice way in to the Chinaman Plains. Yes - there are some short bits of forest - but nothing too bad. Follow compass bearings is best to link up the open areas.

Access from the Adelaide/Meston track was pretty rugged when I did it some years ago (see pic). We walked from Nugara straight down to Adelaide, sounds like it may be easier going down to Meston instead. Plenty of nice campsites all around Lake Nugara.
