Hi All
Have planned a trip to kokoda in September and would like some feedback on preperation/fitness, equipment/clothing needed currently seeing a PT twice a week and hiking on the weekend-for 5-7hrs with 15Kg pack @ a time. Would appreciate if theres a particular part of the tiers I should be climbing. Any tips or tricks you can share..

Westbury is pretty close to Drys Bluff.
From reading the logbook up there it seems that this climb is popular with those training for Kokoda and the Himalayas.

There has been some previous discussions about gear and preparations for walking Kokoda in the forum. Have a look at this one viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1562&p=14245 and here's a page that has a suggested fitness program for getting your body in shape for Kokoda - http://salvos.org.au/investatreks/kokod ... eparation/

I walked Kokoda in October, 2 years ago, and it was an amazing experience. There is only one way to train for Kokoda - and that is hills, hills and more hills - the steeper the better! I did all my training on Higgs Track, Whiteley's Track and Parsons Track - in the Western Creek and Caveside area which is in close proximity to Westbury. Steep hills and uneven, rocky ground are features of all these tracks and will stand you in good stead. Good luck. Kokoda is an awesome adventure.

I noticed the same thing, it makes sense, it is supposed to be Tassies most strenuous day walk!

Drys can be knocked over in about 4-5 hours though, so if you want to test yourself on something longer, trying Western Creek to Mt. Ironstone and back in a day should take longer and involve a more drawn out slog uphill. Also, if you're carrying a pack, the Western Creek track is a little more fiddly to walk than Higgs and Syds which might add to the challenge.
