Closed Tracks

Not sure if this is the right way to go about this but hear goes anyway. We visited the North West Coast over Easter doing some touristy stuff and some SHORT walks (kneee not very co-operative at moment) and thought that Detention falls sounded interesting however when we got to the gate at the start of the track it was closed due to safety concerns. Our complaint is why isn't there a sign saying that the track is closed on one of the directional signs to the falls when you first turn off the Bass Highway so you dont have to drive all the way in there for nothing .We looked at the list of tracks closed on the Parks website but it wasn't on there. The site does state that not all closed tracks are on the list , so how are we suppposed to know if a track is closed or not. I have emailed Parks but am still witing for a response.

Agreed Col. I have been down the track several times. There used to be a direction sign at the Myalla turn off on the Bass Highway. It disappeared when the track and or platform was closed. There was still a sign at the Myalla - Hawley's Road turn off. (a beautiful private garden at the turn off) I understand the viewing platform at the falls is unsafe and needs to be checked. I guess the problem is if a bus load of people all gathered on the platform together. The sign at the gate only mentioned the platform being closed when there last November.

There were some trees across the track along the way but easy to negotiate.

Then again, this might have been the reason for the track being closed!!

The track is not closed, its the platform at the end. There's nothing stopping you hopping over the barrier onto the platform, but you are taking matters into your own hands of course. Parks would not be responsible for adjusting road signs, thats a matter for DIER.
