Mt Faulkner

Has anyone been up here lately?

Seems the landowners are making access very very difficult and I was wondering if there is a current way up?

Which way was the traditional way? There are a few roads leading to it, I'm sure you could get away without having to cross private property

I can tell you my round about way which involves walking past one house if you like, it was fun. Not sky farm way.

Actually a samarai sword probably would be handy to take. Both for the scrub on top and to fend off anyway unwanted approaches.

Yeah, unless you can get formal permission from one of the bounding land owners I'd avoid the place;
unless of course you're favourite movies are Wolf Creek, Turkey Shoot & The Hills Have Eyes :?

The Sky Farm Road land owner no longer allows walkers to use his road for access, which is fair enough as there are Telstra towers on top & he's just trying to protect their assets.

Me & my girlfirend had not 1 but 2 run-ins with scary hill billys on Saturday trying to get to the top via other bounding roads (Molesworth side + Lyell Highway side).

One lot of hill billys chased us or 'escorted' us back to the main road (ie. 4WD right on my tail).

The other lot of hill billys blocked the road behind us with 2 x 4WD's & with misssing-toothed grins stated that we "...look a little lost, he, he, he" (think Wolf Creek style chuckles); some smooth talking was required to get us out of the 'cooking pot' there (probably more literally than figuratively  ).

I'll save that summit for later I think.

Pretty annoying that these urban fringe peaks aren't accessible to the public, they sould be reserves with walking tracks for all to enjoy.

If I ever get close to finishing the Peak Baggers list this may be one of my last summits. :(

The top of Mt Faulkner is a Conservation area that is managed by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service. The road accesses are not public accesses and permission is required by the local landowners.

Yes Mr Ranger we are aware of that. HENCE this post asking if there is a way up as the landowners wont give permission.

It is nice to see some PW staff getting involved in the forum.

Would you know of any of the land owners who have access to the top who MIGHT be willing to let some walkers jump their fences??

Sounds like you might need to know a Telstra employee that needs to "visit" the towers for "maintenance", and is bringing his "assistants and trainees" with him...
Anyone here from Telstra?

Funny you should mention that, a forum member who works for telstra recently had a trip up there, unfortunately for him he got his mtns mixed up and tried to claim the points for the mtn next to Faulkner which is the one with the tower/telstra buildings.

I wouldnt be surprised if a few guys on here are willing to pay him for the trip up though.....

So Faulkner is the one with the fire tower, not the Telstra tower? Maybe a local fireman or SES worker might need to visit this tower for "maintenance" purposes...

Yup thats correct. About 1km between them.
the fire tower isnt the top either FYI. There is a trig station 400mtrs past the fire tower and requires a little scrub bash to reach.

why dont you attempt a late night mission - surely they wont get out of bed at midnight to stop you going up, and even better, have a few 6 packs first, so even if they do shoot you, it will just go numb

Because i've been up there and have no interest in going back.....

But I have suggested this, I just walked up in the middle of the day! It's a public road with lots of places to park before the property......
