Combined Passions: Bushwalking & Bouldering

I Know this isn't just about 'bushwalking' but I am considering (in a slightly mad way) combing my two great passions... bushwalking & bouldering!

My idea... bouldering on the Western Arthurs :D ... I am just about crazy enough to carry a crash pad up Moraine A and from memory I recall lots of bouldering potential once up top and further along the range...

Any other 'bushwalking boulderers' or 'bouldering bushwalkers' out there that would like to comment or even provide pics of potential...

Cheers, Erin 8)

LOL, you're keen dude. I'd be scouting out the spot well ahead of time to save any mucking around!

Nice avatar, King WIlly 1?

Looks like Pelion West Oll...

Erin - you'd be better utilising your time going to areas you can access by a car - as I said the other week, check out the side of Mt Lyell (conglomerate), heaps of fresh problems / first ascents; probably find lots around the west coast in general, tho conglomerate is obviously not the best rock to climb on.
You haven't been to Adamsfield yet, what was developed there during the 90's (sports climbing & bouldering) is probably only a fraction of what is there.

There did look like there was some ok boulders on the north sides of the WA's, tho the rock quality lower on the slopes is poorer than up higher (murphys law).
We found lots of good boulders on the Franklands - want to carry a pad for 8 days, through scrub, scrambling along knife blade ridges... :D

I'd recommend using your holidays to go to the Gramps or Fontainebleau Erin - I know it's not bushwalking but it's a damn site easier :D

Oh, BTW - theres a great little boulder down the South West, you should try it (below)...

You are right Stu, I should be thinking Grampians but I am very attracted to the idea of climbing in 'remote' places. Bouldering on the WA's is probably never gonna happen (at least with a crash pad) but I like thinking outside the square!

MT Lyell is already booked in, as is Adamsfield...
