South and Centre Star

Postby ILUVSWTAS » Sun 19 Sep, 2010 7:51 pm

Has anyone from this forum been to either of these impressive peaks?? Or does anyone know of anyone who has??

I know a couple of people who have been over the Gordon by boat and kayak to access both, but am just wondering about other approaches.

There is always the scrub bash from Reeds Peak down over Bonds Craig to Badger Flats, but boating it would be much easier I would think

I dont think there's much scrub from reeds to Bonds. I know theres some from Bonds to Badger, but im interested in whats between Bonds and Centre Star, and Centre star and South star.

There isn't, it's predominantly open ground. But there looks like a hell of a lot of green around Center/South Star. Still, I reckon we should have a crack. There seems to be a "somewhat" open ridge running down from Great Dome toward Center. That looks fairly textbook onto Center, but it looks like a big drop of the south side of Center and then a lot of scunge and some rock on the way to South Star.

I was wondering about that. People by boat do go from South to Centre, so if we camped near Great dome, did a trip up to Bonds, then came back and headed out to Centre star that might be the go!!

Probably have to leave North star out as it's a long ish round trip to get to there, that can wait for the Spires trip.....

Was thinking exactly the same thing... although maybe camping lower down, as GD is very exposed.

Yup, up & over Great Dome looks like the go Mark.
Down Flagstone Knoll to Trial Ridge to Centre Star looks like the best route (on the map at least).
If we left early enough we could dump packs at Great Dome & get out to Bonds & back late on day 1???
Or I could "mind" the packs while you guys go & scare yourself silly on it at the least, been there, done that
