Just been trawling through some notes on an overnight walk I would like to do on the Cathedral Plateau. I have heard of Tent Tarn & I was reading TasTrekkers notes. Is this a camp spot? I gather there is a cairned route to Twin Spires nearby. I looked for Tent Tarn on a map & couldn't find it. Could some clever person enlighten me, please? This will be a walkover the summer.

I have just arrived back from Tassie. Did a walk to Chalice Lake and spent a night at Tent Tarn. Was able to get coverage, no bars but able to sent a message and call out, from the rocks on the eastern end of Tent Tarn overlooking Chalice Lake.

I believe tent tarn is the one at 280E, 627N on the Cathedral 1:25000 sheet. Its about 1.2km west of the western edge of Chalice lake. I've been there twice. The first time everything was covered in about 2 feet of melting snow, and it was very slushy and hard going. The second time is was dry and perfect clear conditions. There's loads of space around tent tarn for camp spots, and I didn't see any particular area where people tended to camp (which is good). I chose a spot to the south west of the tarn near a little creek. It was a great spot.

There is a cairned route heading up the hill from about where I camped. It's difficult to spot, as most of the cairns are below the level of the scrub. If you can stay on it, it will help get you through the scrubby band as you first climb the hill. I lost it after a while, but it doesn't matter much as the scrub opens up the higher you climb.

The Strollers did a wee walk over Cathederal Plataeu a couple of years back and camped at Tent Tarn (prior to a decent via the ?? to Wadleys Hut at Upper Lees Paddocks) it was a bit indistinct in markings however a breeze for one as experienced as you with a map and compass ( I think we may still have GPS co-ords ? )

Yep it's a nice spot up there, we camped at 55 G 428197 5362902 (WGS84) (put S41.88255 E146.13459 into Google Maps). No cairned routes but not a problem if visibility is okay, or you are GPSing it (as we were).
There are plenty of potential tent sites, though most are a bit wet/lumpy etc. But still good.

Just below the summit and slightly South east of the summit is a beautiful spot with lots of tarns.
Also it means you dont have as far to walk for those beautiful Cathedral sunsets.
