Postby Bradburn » Thu 18 Nov, 2010 10:14 pm

Hi, can anyone please let me know if there is water available between the bottom of Moraine A and Late Fortuna? Thanks

The short answer is no.

There were a couple of very small tarns, but with this area being burnt a couple of years ago they may have gon into recess for a while.

Load up with water at the bottom of Morraine A and that will have to last you.
Unless you are making a side trip to Fortuna you will need to carry enough to get you to Cygnus. it is a fair distance from the track down to Fortuna especially if you just want to get some water.

You may be able to find water on the last part of Moraine A where small trickles of water/ soaks run out of the rocks/ cliffs etc but this would be very dependant on weather/ season and can't be relied upon, best to carry plenty to start with as it's thirsty work!!

I've also found a couple of small soaks underneath the large boulders on the right just as you top out, but again, don't rely on them.
the track down to Fortuna is getting overgown since it was closed several years ago.

I was up there the other day and there was water, water everywhere- especially pelting down at me in the form of hail! More stories to come.....
